Adam Campbell Knee Knacker Race Report

Image from Google Four of us are standing around, knee deep in the chilly northern Pacific Ocean, trying desperately to offset and numb the pain in our legs. We can barely feel the crushed rocks and shells under our feet. Salt is crusted on our faces and jerseys, we all look a dazed, squinting into the sun thats bathing the cove, as our bodies struggle to come back into balance. Were mumbling inanely, wrestling with our incoherent and tired thoughts, but happy to no longer be trapped in our internal monologue. We chatter

The Gainesville Rock Gym

Image from Google A lot has happened since my last post. As most of you know, my residence in Boulder has come to an end and I've moved to Gainesville, FL. Needless to say, things are a bit different here. The people are larger, the food is greasier and the landscape is flatter. At least there's a climbing gym... The Gainesville Rock Gym, vertical toproping, overhang/"lead" wall in the back And that's what I want to talk about today: the merits and failings of the Gainesville Rock Gym . I've been in Gainesville for about

The importance of remembering sequences in climbing

On our coaching camps we talk a lot about visualisation, the importance of remembering sequences and what should be running going through your mind as you climb your route (your internal dialogue). If you are one of those climbers who only climbs intuitively "I'll just figure it out as I go along" you are sabotaging your true potential. Seriously! Spring in Yosemite Valley

Image from Google Dude, turn around! yells Chris from the belay. Looking back, a thick wall of mist obscures the other side of the valley. A flurry of snow blows past and I keep going, anxious to get to the  next belay. Tucked under a tree, I stare out a the sheets of rain coming [...]

Image from Google The team is once again at Base Camp after what can only be described as an epic rotation on the hill. The team left early on Sunday morning with a 4am breakfast of eggs and toast, this is always quite hard to put down knowing that there is the gruelling trek through the ice fall ahead of us. We were all away by 4.30 and soon we were putting our crampons on at the start of the ice fall. The 1st hour or so is pretty flat and very soul destroying as almost no height is gained. We wound our way through the icy

Guest Blogger Rebecca: Gore-Tex Summit

Hi Everyone, RCG HQ here. Rebecca from calipidder.com has posted her take on the recent gathering of outdoor bloggers at Gore-Tex. Enjoy! The Gore-Tex Blogger Summit was a short whirlwind of tours, education, entertainment, and fun with fourteen other outdoor bloggers and many Gore associates. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this event but it was clear from the beginning that it would be an interesting 48 hours with a great group of people. In the spirit of full disclosure, I should mention that Gore

Tieton River Climbing, May 2009

I spent last weekend thrashing myself at Tieton River climbing area , near Yakima, WA. We arrived late on Friday to find our usual abode, the Windy Point campground , closed. We made do; Don and I were in the C-RV so stealth camping isn't usually an issue; friends Susie, Steve and Kari were in a tent and got blown around badly. Despite not much sleep, we had a cheery morning of breakfast and coffee around a Windy Point picnic table. Saturday: Lava Point & Royal Columns Day one's plan was Lava Point, an ...

VisasTheyre Everywhere You Want To Be. Would you believe we finally made it onto our plane to Lhasa, Tibet? The flight itself was uneventful, but the excitement started after clearing customs.
