This week the annual Consumer Electronics Show will take place in Las Vegas, where thousands of new gadgets will be revealed to the public, who will be eager to get their hands on the new technology. At the show, Nikon will introduce their new D4 camera, which, with a reported price tag of $6000, is anything but "consumer" focused. The sessions will be 2 hours long and there will be 6 spaces on each session. I’ll give you a fairly intense couple of hours of climbing technique advice, coaching and inspiration! A comfy pair of shoes is one of the great joys in life. When you find a pair you really like, you tend to hang on to them – sometimes for far too long. That will likely be the case if you ever put a pair of Surf Slipper Chuckas , from Cushe , on your feet. The soft, comfortable shoes may not be designed for hiking or other hardcore outdoor pursuits, but you'll love them for travel or casual outings around town. Made of soft sandal suede, these slip-on shoes feature an integrated microfiber sock that ...

The pictures above show that is was not a very Christmasy scene on Ben Nevis today. Heavy rain, strong winds (gusts of 114mph were recorded on nearby Aonach Mor) and a freezing level of nearly 3000 metres meant that the snow and ice was melting pretty quickly. Most of the ice which had been observed a week of so ago is now gone, with only the main gully lines complete. With more of the same forecast tomorrow it is turing out to be more like A Nightmare before (after) Christmas than a Christmas Carol this

One of my favorite podcasts of all time came off an extended hiatus last week, when The Rest of Everest Episode 152 was released at last. The show has long been a fantastic, and very in depth, look at not only climbing Everest, but also trekking in Nepal and other sections of the Himalaya. This latest episode begins where we left off months ago, when a team of trekkers headed to Lhasa in Tibet to prepare for their Himalayan adventure. As the episode opens, we're reminded that the altitude gain from ...

Friday brings us another episode of Ski the Himalayas , where the climbing/skiing team finally gets their expedition underway. If you've watched the last few episodes of the show, you've seen the team stuck in Jomsom – a small village in Nepal – trying to figure out logistics and even objectives. With no porters to help them reach their intended mountain, they've now elected to go after a different 20,000-foot peak and then ski back down it. The video gives you glimpse of this new goal, which is, like

A new Everest documentary entitled 40 Days at Base Camp , made its debut at the Vancouver International Film Festival last week, and will headline the Banff Mountain Film Festival next week. By all accounts, it is a gripping look at what happens on the mountain during a typical climbing season. Evidently, the film must be something special, as filmmaker Dianne Whelan has already been commissioned to return to Everest next spring to shoot an 8-part reality series on the North Side of the mountain. The show

Octavio and I got another night of the best technical death metal worldwide. Decapitated came back to Mexico City for their 2nd show ever and they didnt disappoint as always. First Descents is a wonderful program that offers young adults, age 18-39, who are fighting or have survived, cancer, a week-long outdoor adventure experience, primarily around, but not limited to, whitewater kayaking.
