Explorers Club Follow-Up: Clarification On Yesterday's Story

Yesterday I posted another story in the ongoing saga of the internal disputes that are taking place inside the Explorers Club , the 108 year old institution that has been at the forefront of exploration and adventure since its founding. In the story I quoted a New York Post article which stated that EC member Josh Bernstein , who also happens to be on the Club's Board of Directors, was "censured and fined" because he accepted tickets to the Club's annual Patron's Dinner from the event's sponsor, Rolex .

Gear Box: CamelBak Charge LR Hydration Pack

Image from Google For active, outdoor enthusiasts, the hydration pack just might be the greatest invention ever. The ability to conveniently carry our water with us no matter where we go or what activity we're doing, has made our ability to play and work outside much easier. Over the years, the hydration pack has evolved to the point where they are now lighter, easier to use, and more ergonomically designed to fit our bodies. They've even become specialized to the point that there are now hydration packs built for specific

Baruntse & Mera Peak Expedition 2011 Part 2

Image from Google Arriving at Baruntse Baruntse Base Camp The arrival at Baruntse was impressive one, as BC, the moraine, and the towering Southwest face of Baruntse opened out in front of us. This was our home for the next 10 days. During the rest of this day and the next, the first rest days we had had for 17 days, we got straight down to business. We only had a scheduled 10 days on the mountain so every day counted. The two days were spent organising piles and many barrels of food, equipment for high on the mountain, and

Baruntse & Mera Peak Expedition 2011 Part 1

Image from Google Introduction This blog is to mark the expedition to climb Mera Peak and Baruntse and all the events that subsequently unfolded. Since making a crazy return from the Himalayas on the 17 th November, the last few weeks have been nothing short of hectic. I have struggled to completely piece this blog together, since how do explain the euphoria of reaching a summit such as Baruntse, or even Mera Peak and the Amphu Labtsa, when I can’t totally understand the feelings myself. Ironically, I found writing the

Happie Doesn't Have Enough to Do Already...

...and so I have added - not one - but TWO new projects to my repertoire. That's on top of the recently launched line of chalkbags under ClimbAddict Designs . The new ventures are similar, and came about when I was invited to join a team of sellers on the Etsy.com platform called Etsy Climbers. This is a group of people on Etsy who rock climb and either have shops on the site, or use the site to shop. The Team Page provides a place for you to join, if you are interested. At any rate, I was excited to join

Climbing, steroids, and being thin

Jamie Emerson recently had an interesting post on steroids and climbing and Andrew Bisharat (the editor of RI ) recently posted a related article called " Climbers Who Cheat " discussing the advantage in climbing given by being thin. I just couldn't bite my tongue and hold off on responding to this most recent article. Since the R&I site doesn't allow comments, here are my thoughts. First, I think Jamie's article on steroids is good mainly for asking questions about steroid use in climbing in a public ...

Spicy climbing

Posted By Liv Sansoz the 2010-11-21 Every year the Petzl Roctrip takes place in stunning locations. This year it was held in Mexico with a special taste and new savor. I was lucky enough to take part in it and would not have missed it; even though, a few months ago I was not even walking. What is there to say about this Petzl Roctrip ? It was truly amazing ! So different in so many ways from any of the other Petzl Roctrips that we have taken part in ! I must underline the huge effort of organization from

The Real Climbers of Las Vegas

I live on the outskirts of this infested sucking black hole called Las Vegas. Suprisingly enough it has spawned some rather interesting climbing characters. Let's explore...... KING RAMSEY IV He was born in 400 b.c. but this doesn't fucking matter. This man has conquered more cra gs and women than you could ever fantasize about. He trains like a maniac , all the while drinking Spaten Optimators . You think this fucker would get weaker with age (he is like a thousand years old ) . But no. Fucker has had the
