Where do you go to get a thrill after you've climbed some of the toughest rock routes in the world? If you're Dean Potter, you move on to slacklining. In the video below, Dean is walking a tight wire, more than a 100 feet long, across an open chasm in Yosemite, without any kind of safety device. One misstep, and it is a long fall to the ground below. Crazy stuff, as usual, from Dean. I'm not sure I get the whole slacklining/highlining craze. It seems like you're just asking for trouble. Still, the video is

T he Chinese team of Yan DongDong and Zhou Peng established three new routes in the Minya Konka Range of China's Sichuan Province. The pair climbed the north face of Reddomain (6112m), the west face of Jiazi (6540m) and, accompanied by filmmaker Li Shuang, the south face of Xiao Gongga (5928m). While Chinese mountaineering has traditionally been dominated by large, siege-style expeditions involving either commercial or governmental entities, this recent expedition breaks from that past. Yan and Zhou ...

I'm very pleased to have been given the opportunity to join Dave MacLeod and two competition winners on a 14-day trip to the islands and fjords around Tromso in Norway. The competition, run by Gore-Tex, asked climbers from all over Europe to apply to join Dave on the trip. After an initial selection process Dave narrowed down the field to just four finalists and last weekend Gore-Tex hosted a weekend climbing event so that Dave could choose the two ultimate winners who would be joining us in Norway. Ice climbing seems to have a major impact your first time around, and it certainly has its appeal. It's a fun activity you can pursue in the winter, when most crags are sitting under a couple feet of snow, and the climbs are beautiful, like crystal castles you get to explore.

As exciting as Rjukan looks, when I picture myself there I know there’s something missing. Getting out of bed for a quick drive down the hill and a short walk to the foot of the ice seems just a bit too convenient for me. If I’m honest, I think Rjukan’s greatest asset (it’s accessibility) is also the biggest thing holding it back. I seriously can’t wait to go there, but it’s certainly not the greatest ice venue on Earth. Ice climbing (like rock climbing) is only a means to an end - it all boils
