I have a couple of quick adventure racing notes to share today, as 2011 continues to shape up to be one of the best years for the sport in recent memories. First, I've mentioned plenty of great races on the Adventure Blog over the past few months, but I haven't talked about the Gold Rush Mother Lode Adventure Race that is scheduled to take place in central California in September. The race is four days in length, which puts it on the shorter end of the expedition category, creating a perfect opportunity

While I was away playing in the bush in South Africa, National Geographic announced the winner of their 2011 People's Choice for Adventurer of the Year. As you may recall, they posted their picks for Adventurer of the Year back in December, with ten very worthy candidates getting the prestigious nod for their achievements throughout 2010. Readers were then asked to vote on their choice for the top adventurer, with Spanish climber Edurne Pasaban winning the online poll. In 2010, Pasaban completed her nine

Here's another article that was posted while I was away last week, but is definitely worth a mention. National Geographic Adventure polled some of the top outdoor athletes and explorers and asked them what remains on their "bucket lists" to accomplish. The results were then put online for us to enjoy. Check it out here . Each person on the list was allowed to name their best trip ever and the dream adventure that remained to be accomplished. For instance, mountaineer Ed Viesturs said that his best trip ...

I've mentioned FEAT more than once here on the Adventure Blog. It's the event that goes down in Johannesburg, South Africa tonight that features 12 top adventurers from that country, with each of them given exactly seven minutes to share an aspect of their expeditions with the crowd. Billed as "the Ultimate Armchair Adventure Experience," it seems like this is going to be one really great evening, with a whole host of interesting speakers on hand to discuss a wide array of topics. I know I wish that I ...

We all shared a collective moment of sadness when it was announced that National Geographic Adventure Magazine would cease to be published back in early December. At the time, they put out a press release saying that we hadn't heard the last of Adventure , and that the "brand" would live on in other ways. That seemed like a lot of marketing spin back then, and while we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best, the outlook seemed grim, even as they said " goodbye for now ". But, all is not a grim as it

Twitter has been all the rage for much of 2009. I was a reluctant convert late last year, but stuck with it and found plenty of good, legitimate, reasons to continue to tweet. The "micro-blogging" service was thrust into the public limelight due to a couple of high profile stories earlier this year, and now it seems that everyone and their mother is using it. In a post to their Adventure Blog today, National Geographic Adventure names their favorite adventurers who are using Twitter, with some big names
