Sarychat Valley, Wester Kokshall Too, Kyrgyzstan. British and Swedish climbers made a series of first ascents in the Kyrgyzstan during August of this year. Charlie Evans (UK), Hannes Granberg (SE) Edward Lemon (UK) and Gareth Mottram (UK) climbed three previously unclimbed peaks between 4631m and 5201m in height and made the second ascent of Pik Lyell (4864m). In 2009 Lemon and Mottram visited the region but were mistakenly dropped off twenty-five kilometers from their planned base-camp. After moving all

2009 was our first foray to the unknown delights of Vietnam and its limestone towers in Ha Long Bay. (You can find our 2009 trip reports and video here ). We had a stack of fun and I was particularly impressed by one limestone tower which had just two routes ( The Face 7b+ and License to Climb 7b). It was the most impressive and striking towers I'd seen in a bay which has over 2,000 limestone towers. After we left, I kept in the back of my mind the dream of establishing an extension to License to Climb ...

Only a few days to go until Kalymnos 2011, so time to get some training in on something steep. Frey Yule's route Evel Knievel 29/8a at Coolum was a likely target. It starts up Evil Wears No Pants 30/8a+ with a burly, 70 degree overhung, 11 move boulder to a good kneebar before cutting a traverse directly left for several bodylengths and then a transition back to "up" climbing to finish up the last three or so bolts of the route Ground Control . I'd been on the route in March this year while conditions were

Peak Lenin It’s now the beginning of September and after a highly eventful and emotional past 4 weeks, I have another long overdue blog to write, whilst I try my upmost to avoid getting burnt in this scorcher of a British summer. It does seem I have been slightly unlucky with the weather, missing the ‘real’ summer this April with a long revision period, however my luck changed during late July and early August as I ventured to Kyrgyzstan, a country famous for..?! What followed was the trip of a ...

I n northern Spain Adam Pustelnik and Nico Favresse completed the second ascent of Orbayu (8C+/9) on Naranjo de Bulnes. Pustelnik and Favresse spent four days red-pointing the thirteen pitch route, located in Picos de Europa. The Pou brothers, Eneko and Iker, established Orbayu in September of 2009 grading it at 8c+/9a and donning it the hardest big wall free climb in the world. The route climbs the west face of the wall for over 1600 feet with five pitches in the 8 grade range. The Pou brothers had ...

There is now a full report from Nico and Adam on Black Diamond's website.
Both climbers says it is an exceptional route and that they would like to thank the Pou brothers for their vision for this line and their effort to put it up. On the unavoidable subject of the grade, they say they felt the route was a bit easier than the grade given. Instead of 8c+/9a for the crux pitch, they suggest 8c or 8b+ depending on your height.
I mentioned in the update that Adam had had an accident after...

On Rats Stole my Toothbrush E5/6, Mucklehouse Wall I wrote this on the way home from our trip to Orkney, having had a great time. The final days were mostly spent gathering some really cool footage for our film about the Longhope route which we’ll prepare for the autumn. Ed Drummond revisiting St John’s Head. Photo Lukasz Warzecha For the last few days we also had a nice visit from Ed Drummond who stayed with us and walked back in to St John’s head to see his route again, 41 years after his original
