Muriel Sarkany, the ex-world champion from Belgium, has repeated Hot chili X, 8c, at Déversé in Gorge du Loup north of Nice.
This was Muriel's second of the grade, after Drop city, which she climbed in Turkey three years ago.
Alsdo in France, but at Rocher du Mourgue, Christophe Zehani did his 4th 8c+ of the year, and quite likely the one with the longest name: Les rois de la pipe sortent par la grande porte.
A wee bit further south, in Rocklands, South Africa, Adam Ondra made the 2nd ascent...

On Saturday, after visiting Flagstaff to do a bouldering tour (nobody wanted one) and talking with OSMP Ranger Rick Hatfield, I headed home to regroup and head off to RMNP. The Park was looking gorgeous with the high peaks, dusted with snow, glistening in the sun. The Bear Lake parking is still touch-and-go on these nice weekend days, sadly the only time I can make it. A pleasant hike up to Lower followed and I settled in for another session on the project. After a fun warmup on the many moderate problems

The trauma of Saturday’s efforts has put my ankle injury back a bit, so it’s no climbing for me for another wee while to give the wound a chance to knit again. Unfortunately, I think it could get in the way of finishing my big trad projects of the summer. But never say die… Who cares? At least I got through Saturday. I didn’t really tell anyone, but the whole of last week passed in a preoccupied state of worry that I wouldn’t be able to climb on the day. On the Wednesday morning I got out of bed

A happy Kenton, Lou and Jo Jo in Italy With the 2010 Everest expedition looming just around the corner things are getting all a little hectic at Dream Guides. It's still business as normal however with myself and Guy busy working away in the Alps. This week, I (Kenton) have spent a couple of days with our old friend Seb Chivers and his good friend Sarah. We spent a day in Cogne and a great albeit cold day in Megeve climbing a grade 5 icefall that I've not done before, it was Seb's first grade 5....top ...

We started off for Lochnagar this morning but encountered deep snow on the road at the Glen Muick cattle grid. It was too much for the wee Escort but I don't think a Hummer could have made it in time for the avalanche report. So we found deep snow near Glenshee ski area for the test profile that shows the shear down 60cm on graupel. Excellent skiing in the area.

I have foregone a holiday all summer on the basis that work has been very busy and the conditions in Font are better towards autumn. I was desperate for some time off, time away from the office and some long stints of fresh air. I was also looking forward (with some trepidation, I must admit) to showing Tamsyn and Dina the joys of la foret domeniale de Fontainebleau and introducing them to real outdoor bouldering. Tamsyn and Dina headed out on Saturday and I joined them on Monday, having had prior ...

Last June, I solicited romantic outdoor adventure stories, as part of a contest with Kiss My Face . Originally, I figured, I'd get a few entries, but there'd be a clear winner that rose to the top. Choosing two favorite "quotes" is easy. Here they are, in no particular order: "We proceeded to strike up a conversation, and I learned that he was an 'engineer for an outdoor retailer.' I thought that meant he smoked a bunch of weed and designed carabiners or something. I mean, he did have a ponytail." - Lauren

Nice zebra stripes on Mullach nan Coirean. After the dry tooling comp in Glen Coe, it was time to get home and swing into action to get ready for some mixed action out in the real world the next morning. Home, Metallica on, dishes washed, tools resharpened, bag packed, lunch made (a sport climbers hill food day of five biscuits and a wee bag of nuts). The next morning a bleary eyed stagger into the quiet coires of the Mamores with Malcolm Kent brought us to the foot of a project Donald told me about. ...
