Thin-Breeding: Wolves of Isle Royale Need More Ladies

Minnesota Public Radio ran a piece last week about the alarmingly dwindling gray wolf population on Isle Royale, Michigan, which is definitely worth reading. Isle Royale, for those unfamiliar, is a large (200-plus square miles) island off the northern shore of Lake Superior near Ontario. Isle Royale boasts no roads, so visitors come by flying, [...]

Ten Winter Activities In Yellowstone

Image from Google I sent this out to my Twtter feed over the weekend, but wanted to share it here as well. As many of you know, I spent a good portion of the early part of January in Montana and Yellowstone National Park , playing in the snow. This is the second time that I've visited the park in the past six months, and my winter adventure was very different from my summer one, although I did get a blizzard in September too. Everest Base Camp Trek - day 1 - Kathmandu

oh my GOD, Al... exclaimed Lise as the plane banked south east and we got our first unambiguous view of the gargantuan wall of snow-capped mountains on the horizon to the north of Kathmandu, I thought they were SKY! I wrote about this experience at length this morning over at Gadling , but definitely wanted to share some thoughts on it here as well, as it was one of those opportunities that rarely come along in your lifetime. Now don't get me wrong, it is quite possible to spot ...

New Movie Frozen Looks Either Really Silly or Really Scary

The Adventure LIfe posted a trailer to a new film coming out soon called Frozen that looks both incredibly scary and silly all at the same time. The movie centers around a trio of young skiers and snowboarders who are off to the slopes for a day of fun. But when they decide to make one last run very late in the day, they end up getting stranded on the chairlift just as the resort is closing down for the week. (I swear I'm not making this up!) The film will then follow their fight to survive out there in

Ten Destinations Where You're The Prey

Forbes Traveler has an interesting article on their site listing off ten destinations where the animals eat you . The list is designed to give adventurer travelers some new ideas for places to get up close and personal with wildlife and encounter some of the planet's top predators in their natural environments. Some of the places making the list include Manu National Park in the Peruvian Amazon, which is home to a healthy population of jaguars which silently stalk the jungle. For a completely different ...

A new long distance, off road race is set to make it's debut tomorrow as the 50km Baviaanskloof Trail Run makes it's debut in South Africa.
